The Washington Metro Area chapter's number one goal is to support the students that are currently attending BCU from the DMV, by engaging in several fundraising activities such as, the HBCU Alliance 5K run 2K walk, the Washington Metro Area scholarship brunch and the HBCU Alliance Soiree.

Our commitment to the community is important as well. We are involved in food banks, toy drives, and workshops that help and support the young, such as STEM. We also attend and host the local football games when BCU comes to our area.

We do have monthly meetings but they are never boring for example: one of our meetings is held at the Washington DC Convention Center and we get free admittance to the Auto Show. Another meeting is held at a member's home where we get to have a cookout afterwards. And the November meeting is a watch party for the Florida classic so we can watch the Wildcats beat up on the Rattlers!!

But most important we are here to SERVE as our beloved founder, "Dr Mary McLeod Bethune" instructed us to do when we DEPARTED from BCU. So I encourage all of you to join this wonderful chapter and help it thrive even better. Hail Wildcats!

Greetings Alumni and Friends,
It is my pleasure to serve as President of the Washington Metropolitan Area Bethune Cookman University Alumni Association (WMABCUAA). WMABCUAA is on the move from embracing the latest in technology to exceeding our fundraising efforts; we are indeed a force to be recognized.

Mary McLeod Bethune left a legacy of generosity and service to our nation and across the globe. The B-CU motto "enter to learn; depart to serve" are words of wisdom that are as appropriate today as any time in our history. What makes Bethune-Cookman University great? I believe it is the alumni, living the mission and vision of our beloved institution. The alumni association provides an opportunity to renew relationships and update our alums on the work and successes of our University.

These are exciting times at Bethune-Cookman University. We are in a time of great transition having graduated the largest class in the university history. The expansion of campus facilities has huge potential in a multitude of ways and will assist the University in drawing the best prepared students to a variety of programs and experiences. The future plans for the University are creative and ambitious and we can take pride in the quality of instruction, guidance and overall preparation our students receive on a daily basis at B-CU.

We are in tough economic times and our University needs us as alums to step up and assist in every way we can to provide assistance for the students in need. WMABCUAA major fundraising efforts are all geared to support the university and students within the Washington Metropolitan Area as they continue their educational thrust. It is crucial that each of us do all we can to assist our University as much as we can whenever we can.

I am looking forward to increasing membership within our association and ask each alumnus to reflect on their own journey. Where would you be without Bethune-Cookman University? Think of the education, the experiences and the friendships that have come directly and indirectly from your attending and graduating from this premier place of learning. With that in mind, I ask you to get involved with the university and alumni association with whatever level of time and commitment you are able. Spread the word of how your profession allows you to excel. Recruit and mentor others into your field. I encourage each alumnus to participate in any way they can to assist the students of today with your gifts of time, talent and treasure.

Keep our Community Growing - Continue the Tradition of Excellence-Promote Bethune-Cookman University.

You Alumni are our Best Ambassadors!

In the Spirit,
Raenatta E. Floyd-President

The Washington Metropolitan Area Bethune-Cookman University Alumni Association (WMABCUAA) supports BCU in the attainment of its mission through fundraising activities and recruitment of students. Additionally, as a non-profit organization, we are able to provide financial support to the University through networking and coordination of efforts, activities, and programs to increase social and professional interaction among alumni.
